The region that would become Colonial Heights owes its existence to the establishment of Prince George County in 1720. The county’s name honors Prince George of Denmark, husband to Queen Anne, reflecting the era’s British royal influence. The development of the Appomattox River was crucial, facilitating transportation and trade.
