Established in 1834 from parts of Rush, Fayette, and Randolph counties, this Indiana locale carries a name steeped in American history. It was named in honor of Stephen Decatur, a celebrated naval hero of the War of 1812, known for his bravery in capturing the USS Chesapeake and later, rescuing survivors from the USS Macedonian.
