History

Nestled along the Monterey Bay in California, this city’s story began relatively recently. Founded in 1954, it arose from the former U.S. Army post of Fort Ord. The name "Seaside" was chosen to reflect its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the promise of a coastal lifestyle. Initially, it served primarily as a residential area for military personnel and their families stationed at the base. Following the base’s closure in 1995, the city underwent a significant transformation, evolving from a military-dependent community to a more diverse and independent municipality.
